Animal Regulations
FASEB Webinar Series
Animal research is an integral part of medical progress, and scientists understand that good science and good animal care go hand-in-hand. This is guided by a complex set of federal laws and guidelines, and understanding how this research is regulated is critical for ensuring proper care and use of animals. In Part 1 of this FASEB webinar series on animal research regulations, speakers will provide an overview on the federal laws that protect laboratory animals, including the Animal Welfare Act and PHS Policy. Participants will also discuss the mechanisms by which federal agencies implement and enforce these regulations. Together, these oversight mechanisms enable researchers to continue expanding scientific knowledge while upholding quality animal care.
In Part 2 of the FASEB webinar series on animal research regulations, speakers will elaborate on the role of the IACUC and AAALAC in ensuring animal research is conducted safely. This webinar will assist researchers to 1) understand how the laws and guidelines discussed in Webinar 1 serve as a basis for the functions of IACUC and AAALAC, 2) recognize their responsibilities in research compliance, and 3) learn how to effectively communicate with these groups.
